Two Men Arrested for Stealing aToyota Corolla During Juma’at Prayer in Abuja

Niger State Police Command operatives have apprehended two individuals suspected of conspiring to steal a Toyota Corolla.

According to a statement released on June 20, 2024, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects took the vehicle from the Central Mosque in Abuja during Juma’at prayers. They were caught in Minna while attempting to sell the car for N6.5 million.

On June 14, 2024, around 6:40 PM, police from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna detained the suspects: Gwaza Bulus, 41, from Zango-Kataf, Kaduna State, and Yahaya Amodu, 45, from Kwakuti, Niger State. The pair were found with the stolen white Toyota Corolla, registration number ABC 72 NF, in the Sauka-Kahuta area of Minna.

During questioning, Bulus recounted meeting a man named Daniel in Area 3, Abuja. After discovering their shared origins in Kaduna, Daniel introduced Bulus to Abdul, who offered to sell a vehicle. Abdul later provided Bulus with a counterfeit key and detailed instructions on where to find the car parked near the Central Mosque during Juma’at prayers. Bulus then drove the car to Kwakuti to meet Yahaya, whom he had met online as a vehicle dealer. After some delay in selling the car, Bulus and Yahaya decided to take the vehicle to Minna to expedite the sale.

The suspects were caught in the act of negotiating the sale of the car, without any proper documentation, for N6.5 million in Minna. Both are now under investigation by SCID Minna, with efforts ongoing to apprehend Abdul. The case will be transferred to the FCT Command for further investigation and prosecution.
