Two-Storey Building Collapses in Kubwa, Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria– Early Saturday morning, a portion of a two-storey residential building in Kubwa, Abuja, collapsed, leaving numerous individuals trapped under the debris.
The incident took place beside the well-known Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way). The building, which was once known as the Al-Hilal Hotel, had been converted to a hospital before becoming a residential apartment complex after the hospital owners vacated the premises.
Emergency responders and security personnel quickly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations. However, their efforts faced significant delays due to the absence of necessary cranes, which had not arrived by 8:45 am, almost two hours after the collapse.
Despite these challenges, it was reported that two individuals had been transported to a nearby hospital, and a few others managed to escape without assistance.
One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted her experience, stating that she awoke around 7 a.m. and upon stepping outside, heard ominous cracking sounds, prompting her to flee immediately.
The situation remains dire as rescue teams continue their efforts to locate and assist those still trapped under the rubble.
