Unknown Gunmen Kill Two Police Officers, Bystander in Imo State
On Tuesday, unidentified gunmen shot and killed two police officers at a security checkpoint on the Owerri-Okigwe road in Imo State. A civilian was also shot inside a nearby house.
An eyewitness reported that the incident occurred around 6:25 am in Akabo, located within the Ikeduru Council Area of Imo State. A video of the aftermath, which has since gone viral, shows the two police officers lying on the ground and another body inside a room.
According to witnesses, the gunmen, driving recklessly, opened fire after killing the officers at the checkpoint. They then targeted and shot a man inside his home.
In the wake of the shooting, local residents fled for safety, and shop owners were seen closing their businesses out of fear. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, stated, “We are running. Nobody knows what will happen next, so we have to take cover until things calm down. The best thing to do is close your shop for now.”
As of the time of this report, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye had not yet responded to inquiries about the incident.
