Violence in Kano Claims One Life; See Numbers of Police Officers Injured

Violence erupted in the Jaen Makera quarters of Kano metropolis, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to two police officers. The deceased, Muktar Garba, known as Babalia, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, outgoing Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel confirmed the incident. According to Gumel, Garba died at the hospital, and his body has been handed over to his family for burial.

The commissioner reported that armed hoodlums attacked residents despite the presence of police officers. Additional police reinforcements were deployed, and peace was eventually restored as the assailants fled the scene. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the attackers.

Earlier on Wednesday, other groups of hoodlums engaged in street fights at Yan Dillalai and Jaen Makera, using dangerous weapons. Police dispersed the groups, but during the confrontations, officers Wasilu Umar and Abdulmalik Yusif were injured. Both officers have since been treated and discharged from the hospital.

One suspect, Umar Shuaibu, was arrested for assaulting Officer Yusif, and a vehicle attached to Filin Hockey was damaged during the unrest.

Commissioner Gumel stated that the police command is actively working to address the root causes of the violence and ensure lasting peace and security in the area. He assured that normalcy has returned, with police personnel continuing to monitor the situation.
