Why FG Predicts Thunderstorms Nationwide Over the Next Three Days

The Federal Government, via the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has issued a forecast predicting thundery weather across Nigeria from Thursday through Saturday.
In its weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet indicated that morning thunderstorms are expected in the northern regions on Thursday. Specifically, areas in Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna, as well as parts of Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kebbi, will experience these storms later in the day.
On Friday, Taraba is anticipated to see morning thunderstorms, with afternoon and evening storms expected in Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa.
Saturday’s forecast includes morning thunderstorms in Taraba and Adamawa, followed by storms in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and additional parts of the north.
In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms are likely in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue, with more storms expected later. This pattern is expected to continue into Friday and Saturday mornings, with afternoon and evening storms affecting most areas.
For the southern region, morning thunderstorms are forecasted in Ebonyi and Enugu, with widespread storms anticipated later in the day. On Friday, thunderstorms are expected in Abia, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom during the morning, with similar conditions expected later.
NiMet has warned of a significant risk of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall and advises residents to steer clear of flood-prone areas. Strong winds may accompany the thunderstorms.
The agency urges the public to follow safety guidelines from relevant authorities and advises airline operators to stay updated with current weather reports for effective planning.
