Why I Squatted to Speak to Governor Abiodun – Ogun Monarch
Oba Fatai Akamo, the Olu of Itori in Ogun State, has clarified his decision to squat while addressing Governor Dapo Abiodun at a public event in Lagos.
The monarch explained that he squatted out of gratitude for the governor’s promise to repair the road in his community and construct a general hospital.
Speaking in Yoruba, Oba Akamo mentioned that if the meeting had been private, he would have shown even more respect by prostrating and rolling on the ground. He recalled their conversation, saying, “When I met with him, he said, ‘Your Majesty, I have good news for you. They will begin the construction on the express road within the next three weeks.'”
“The governor also assured me that the General Hospital would be completed within six months. If our meeting had been private, I would have prostrated and rolled on the ground in reverence before him.”
Governor Abiodun faced criticism for allowing a traditional ruler to squat while speaking to him at the event in Lagos.
