Why North Will Decide Who Wins 2027 Presidential Election – ACF
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Board of Trustees has asserted that the North’s demographic strength gives it the power to influence the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, BOT Chairman Alhaji Bashir M. Dalhatu revealed that prominent Northern figures are urging the ACF to pay close attention to the policies and initiatives of current political leaders—especially those directly benefiting the region—as the next election approaches.
Despite the political discussions, Dalhatu expressed deep concern about the deteriorating security situation across Northern Nigeria. He urged the federal government to take urgent action to prevent further instability.
Addressing broader issues, the BOT criticized the treatment of the indigenous communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), citing displacement without compensation for the creation of the capital as unjust.
Dalhatu highlighted the North’s substantial influence within Nigeria, stating, “With 19 states plus the FCT, a majority presence in both the Senate and House of Representatives, and close to 60% of the nation’s population, the North has the capacity to shape national outcomes—if united.”
He emphasized that discussions around the 2027 elections, though considered premature, must be rooted in evaluating how well the current administration serves the North’s interests. To that end, the Forum is considering forming a committee to review the federal government’s projects and programs, assessing their impact on the region.
He reiterated that the North’s allegiance lies not with any political figure or party, but with those who genuinely support and advance the region’s priorities. “Our loyalty is to leaders who defend Northern interests, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
The BOT also raised concerns over alleged land acquisition in the North by individuals from the South, stating that similar privileges are often not extended to Northerners living in southern parts of the country.
