Why Shettima Shouldn’t Have Lasted This Long — Labour Party’s Datti Drops Bombshell

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who ran for VP under the Labour Party in 2023, isn’t holding back when it comes to his thoughts on Nigeria’s current leadership. In an appearance on ARISE News, he aimed sharp words at Vice President Kashim Shettima, suggesting that Shettima’s continued presence in office is more of a political miracle than anything else.
According to Datti, President Bola Tinubu has “tried” just by keeping Shettima around this long.
“I’m not blaming Tinubu,” he said. “Because anyone who really knows what Shettima has done—or is doing—wouldn’t have let him last this long. Honestly, it’s not even something you can talk about openly. The airwaves can’t handle it.”
He didn’t go into detail, but his message was clear: Shettima’s place as VP is shaky, and in Datti’s view, it probably always has been.
He went on to challenge the legitimacy of the entire administration, calling it a product of rigging and manipulation rather than genuine democratic victory.
“To you, it might look like we have a strong, capable president. But what I see is someone who emerged from a flawed and dishonest process,” he said.
Datti’s remarks add to growing political tension as discussions about 2027 start to heat up. For him, what Nigerians are witnessing isn’t stability—it’s smoke and mirrors.
