Woman Commits Suicide by Burning Herself After Divorce in Jigawa
A 40-year-old woman (identity withheld) has died by self-immolation following her recent divorce, according to the Jigawa State Police Command.
DSP Lawan Shiisu, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the tragic event in a statement on Friday. The woman, from Garin Mallam village in Guri Local Government Area, reportedly doused herself with petrol and set herself on fire early Thursday morning.
The police received the distressing report around 7:40 am. Officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters promptly arrived at the scene, where they found the body severely burned. They transported it to the hospital before releasing it to the family for burial.
Shiisu noted that initial investigations suggested the woman had been struggling with depression following her divorce. State Commissioner of Police Ahmadu Abdullahi emphasized the importance of seeking spiritual solace and guidance from elders to navigate difficult situations and prevent such tragedies.
