₦15 BILLION SCANDAL: Activist Drags Ademola Adeleke’s Government to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Over Alleged Mismanagement and Lack of Accountability

A human rights lawyer, John Alaci Bagi, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling for a full-scale investigation into the alleged mismanagement and lack of accountability in funds disbursed to the Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a petition dated March 12, 2026, and submitted through Alaci Attorneys, the activist accused the state government of failing to account for billions of naira released from the national treasury between 2023 and 2025 for key development projects.

According to the documents, a total sum of over ₦2.6 billion was disbursed to the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as matching grants for the 2023 fiscal period.

Additionally, ₦598 million was reportedly released under the Teacher Professional Development Fund for the 2023/2024 cycle.

The petition further revealed that the state also received ₦6.968 billion from the Development of Natural Resources Fund and ₦5 billion from the Stabilisation Fund, allocations facilitated through the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to address economic challenges in the state.

Altogether, the funds in question amount to approximately ₦15 billion.

However, the petitioner alleged that there is no clear record or evidence indicating that these funds were utilized for the purposes for which they were released. He described the situation as “worrisome and frightening,” noting that the lack of transparency raises serious concerns about financial accountability in the state.

Bagi, who described himself as an advocate of the masses, urged the EFCC to use its statutory powers to investigate the matter and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice. He stressed that the alleged failure to properly account for such significant public funds could constitute a financial crime.

The documents attached to the petition include correspondence from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), confirming the disbursement of matching grants to Osun State, while also noting that no funds were released for the 2025 cycle due to unmet conditions by the state.

The activist maintained that the Nigerian public deserves transparency, especially at a time when many citizens are grappling with economic hardship, inflation, and unemployment.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
