The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said that operatives from its anti-kidnapping unit, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, raided two camps of kidnappers bordering Nasarawa and Abuja, via Kuje Area Council, at about 12am, and arrested two persons— one Saidu Abdulkadir, aka Dahiru Adamu, who is the gang leader; and a member of another kidnap syndicate, whose other gang members were paraded on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh
The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, had on Wednesday, placed a N20m bounty on Adamu, and another kidnap suspect, Abu Ibrahim, while charging police officers to fish out the kidnappers, dead or alive.
Seven other members of the kidnapping gang— Usman Muhazu, Aliyu Muhammed, Auwal Lahiru, Rabiu Sani, Madina Abubakar, Jonah Elimelechi, and Saminu Idris— had previously been arrested by a combined team of operatives of the Utako Divisional Headquarters, and the anti-kidnapping team, following ‘credible intelligence’.
The police said the bandits, on sighting the operatives, opened fire but were eventually overpowered, while two kidnap victims— Habu Yakubu and Isufu Abubakar— who were both abducted in the Kuje Area Council, were rescued unhurt.
Adeh also said that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects masterminded the kidnap and killing of one Mr Sunday Zakwai, the district head of Ketti village.
On his part, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennet Igweh, warned criminals that there was no hiding place for them in the FCT, while urging residents to report suspicious activities to the police.
