Court Denies Nnamdi Kanu’s Bail Request, Orders Continued Detention by DSS

The Federal High Court in Abuja has turned down the request of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Biafra separatist movement, to reinstate his bail and release him from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody.

Justice Binta Nyako, who presided over the case, reiterated her previous decision to reject a similar plea from Kanu, citing a lack of merit. In her ruling, she confirmed that Kanu had breached his bail conditions by fleeing Nigeria.

Additionally, Justice Nyako highlighted that the individuals who initially stood as sureties for Kanu have since sought to withdraw their support, as they have been unable to locate him. She advised that Kanu’s only recourse now is to appeal the decision through the Court of Appeal.

Addressing claims from Kanu’s legal team, Justice Nyako clarified that the Supreme Court ruling did not support the argument that his bail should not have been revoked. She confirmed that after reviewing the Supreme Court’s judgment, she found no basis for the lawyer’s assertions.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Kanu has remained vocal in his opposition, refusing to participate in the Nigerian judicial process. He maintains that any attempts to prosecute him would contravene both Nigeria’s Constitution and international law.
