TROOPS APPREHEND 6 KIDNAPPERS, REJECT 2 MILLION NAIRA BRIBE IN TARABA STATE

On May 19, 2024, troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sub Sector 3 of OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) conducted a successful operation, capturing six suspected kidnappers in Taraba State.

Acting on a tip-off, the 93 Battalion Sub-Sector 3B OPWS, based at Forward Operating Base Wukari, executed a meticulously planned raid in Chinkai Village, Wukari Local Government Area. This operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals, Usman Gide Ali, 25, and Abdulrahaman Amadu, 28. Both suspects were wanted for their involvement in numerous kidnappings in Wukari and surrounding areas.

Following their capture, the suspects offered a 2 million Naira bribe to the troops, hoping to secure their release. However, the soldiers refused the bribe, demonstrating their commitment to justice and ethical conduct. The suspects were overheard threatening that if the bribe failed, their associates would attempt an armed rescue.

In a separate operation in Ibi Local Government Area, troops stationed at Sarikin Kudu, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended four more suspected kidnappers: Jafaru Banyi, 28; Mohammad Ardo, 25; Amadu Lawal Shatta, 20; and Biyu Ardu, 25. These individuals were connected to several high-profile abductions in the region, targeting both locals and foreigners, and had been under surveillance by security agencies for some time.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, praised the troops for their bravery and steadfast adherence to ethical standards. He emphasized that the successful capture of these suspects reflects the soldiers’ diligent efforts and integrity, particularly highlighted by their refusal to accept bribes.
