APC Seeks Wike’s Support Again
The Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is keen on bringing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, into its ranks to boost their chances of securing a presidential victory for Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
During a one-million-man solidarity march for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Tony Okocha, the State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, emphasized the strategic importance of Wike in Rivers State politics. He referred to Wike as a political tactician with a Midas touch, whose influence cannot be underestimated.
Okocha highlighted that Wike’s support would significantly enhance Tinubu’s reelection prospects in Rivers State, noting the critical role Wike played in Tinubu’s previous victory there. He mentioned, “Wike is the leader of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ in Rivers State and was instrumental in Tinubu’s success in the last election. His reformist nature and leadership are invaluable to us.”
Regarding Wike’s prominent position on the event’s banner alongside President Tinubu, Okocha clarified, “This is not strictly an APC event but a gathering of the President’s supporters in Rivers State. Wike, with his influential capabilities, is being courted once more to join APC and help us maintain our winning streak, especially as we look towards 2027.”
Okocha recounted past challenges faced by the party in the state, including opposition within the local APC leadership that hindered their campaign efforts for Tinubu. Critics had questioned Tinubu’s health and suitability for presidency, spreading misinformation about his fitness for office.
He defended Tinubu’s leadership, stating, “Despite the numerous setbacks Nigeria has faced over the decades, President Tinubu has shown clear intent to rectify these issues, starting from his very first day in office. The abolition of fuel subsidies and subsequent economic measures have begun to bear fruit, with significant funds now available for development projects across various government levels.”
Okocha concluded by reiterating the essential role Wike played in the 2023 election and the necessity of his continued support for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.
