BREAKING: Fire Erupts at NNPC Filling Station in Lagos, Causes Traffic Chaos
A fire has broken out at a Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) filling station in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State, leading to severe traffic congestion. Videos posted on social media platform X show heavy flames, with residents urgently calling for the intervention of fire services and other emergency agencies.
The blaze, which began on Thursday evening, has created a significant gridlock around the site. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and there is no official information yet on the extent of the damage.
In a post on X, a user named Softwallet alerted, “URGENT! A Fuel tanker is on fire near Fadeyi Bus Stop right now. #Lagos. There’s traffic around that place, please the appropriate officials should be notified. Abeg oooo.”
Another user, Emmy, pleaded, “Please help rt NNPC filling station on fire in Fadeyi, we need firefighters.”
This incident follows a similar event just six days earlier, where a fire broke out at the NNPC terminal in Apapa, Lagos. Swift action by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service helped control that blaze. According to a statement from the Director/CEO of the state fire service, Margaret Adeseye, the Apapa fire was caused by a petroleum product spillage within the tank farm perimeter. Various emergency responders in the oil and gas industry collaborated to contain the situation.
Adeseye assured the public that the emergency operation was under control and promised further updates.
In a previous incident reported by SaharaReporters in 2020, an NNPC filling station in the Ogba area of Lagos also caught fire, spreading to a nearby residential building.
