Nigerians Turn to VPN as Tapswap Access is Restricted

 

The Tapswap crypto-mining app, which has become immensely popular in Nigeria, is facing access issues within the country. Users report that the app fails to load or complete transactions when accessed through Nigerian internet connections.

 

To circumvent this issue, many Nigerians have started using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to bypass what appears to be geoblocking measures.

 

Frustrated users have taken to social media to seek explanations and express their dissatisfaction. Some speculate that Tapswap might have intentionally restricted access for Nigerian users.

 

On X.com, Ernest, tweeting under the handle #AuthorHeaven_EW, commented, “It seems the crypto exchange Tap Swap has controversially blocked Nigerian users.” He added that by using VPNs, Nigerians have found a way to access the platform, suggesting a deliberate restriction possibly influenced by local political disapproval.

 

Another user, Roman, tweeting as #gentl_introvert, remarked, “Nigerians have misused #Tapswap, leading to its ban in Nigeria. Why does anything good in Nigeria end up getting banned? Is it the government’s fault or the country’s as a whole?”

 

In response, Tapswap released a statement denying any targeted ban on Nigerian users. According to the company, the restrictions were part of measures to counter DDoS attacks originating from the region.

 

“To our Nigerian community, we understand your concerns about access limitations. We want to clarify that this is not a targeted action. Verification was required due to DDoS attacks from the region. We will lift these measures once our infrastructure is fully secured.

 

“We value every member of our global community and appreciate your understanding and support,” the company stated on X.
