Five Injured in Farmers-Herders Clash in Jigawa, Police Report
The Jigawa State Police have reported that a clash between farmers and cattle herders in the Hayin Kogi forest, Birninkudu Local Government Area, resulted in injuries to five farmers.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, on Monday.
According to the report, the incident occurred around 5:00 PM when farmers in the Hayin Kogi Forest were attacked by herders from the Waza Fulani settlement while they were clearing bushes in preparation for the wet season farming. Many of the farmers fled, leaving behind their tricycles, phones, and farming tools.
DSP Shiisu stated that following the report, police officers from the nearby division were quickly dispatched to the scene. A 42-year-old man and four others who were injured were transported to Dutse General Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged. The abandoned belongings of the farmers were recovered and returned to them.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“Normalcy has been restored in the area. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, has convened a stakeholders’ meeting and has ordered the arrest of those responsible for the attack. The CP has instructed the Area Commander for Birninkudu and the Divisional Police Officers for Birninkudu and Kiyawa to hold a stakeholders’ meeting to reduce tension and prevent further disturbances,” DSP Shiisu added.
