Army Corporal Arrested for Stealing 602 Rounds of Ammunition
The Nigerian Army has apprehended Corporal Francis Bako for allegedly stealing ammunition in Borno State. Bako was caught with 602 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The arrest was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). This information was revealed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, on his X account on Tuesday.
Makama reported that Bako was detained at Kano Motor Park in Maiduguri after a tip-off. The post stated, “The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, Borno State, have arrested a soldier, Corporal Francis Bako, for allegedly stealing ammunition. He was arrested by Military intelligence at Kano Motor Park, Maiduguri following a tip-off.”
Sources indicated that Bako, originating from Mallam Fatori, was en route to Kaduna when he was intercepted and found with the ammunition. The soldier is now in military custody for further investigation.
Videos and images accompanying the report showed the paraded soldier and the seized ammunition. As of the time of the report, the Nigerian Army had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
