Lokoja—Police in Kogi State announced yesterday that they have recovered several firearms and ammunition following a confrontation with criminals terrorizing the region.
State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, reported from Lokoja that their ongoing efforts against criminal activities in the state are yielding positive results.
He stated that wounded criminals were captured along Obajana Road in the state’s western senatorial district.
Aya explained, “As part of the continuous offensive against banditry, kidnapping, and other serious crimes in Kogi State, Nigeria Police Force operatives attached to the Obajana Division, working with Fulani vigilantes, responded to a tip-off received at 11:30 a.m. on 27/05/2024 about three armed criminals spotted in Ankumi forest.
The Divisional Police Officer, Oguche Richard, immediately deployed his patrol team and the Fulani vigilantes to the area at 2:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival, the criminals opened fire on the team, who then returned fire. Due to the superior firepower of the police, two criminals were fatally injured while another escaped with gunshot wounds.
“Recovered items from the scene include an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and two rounds of live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect.”
