How Kid who rejected Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest Player, Awoniyi’s cash gift earns nationwide admiration

By Peter Akinbo

At the French Embassy in Abuja, eight-year-old Peter has become a source of nationwide admiration after politely refusing a substantial cash gift from Taiwo Awoniyi, a striker for the Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest, according to FIRST CLASS GISTS.

The event occurred on Monday during Awoniyi’s visit to the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jean Francois Hasperue, to discuss potential sports partnerships and the development of the Unicorn Football Academy in Ilorin.

Blogger Uche Nworah, who was at the embassy, shared the story on Facebook. Nworah and his colleagues had encountered Peter, who greeted them courteously as they awaited their meeting.

Impressed by Peter’s manners, Nworah called him back to commend him and offered a small cash gift, which Peter declined, explaining that his father had instructed him not to accept gifts from strangers.

Nworah then noticed Awoniyi exiting the embassy and recounted the story to him. Moved by the boy’s integrity, Awoniyi offered Peter five £20 notes. However, despite the significant amount, Peter again refused and quickly left, seemingly overwhelmed by the attention.

Reflecting on the incident, Nworah praised Peter’s upbringing, expressing his joy that there are still well-mannered children like him. He lauded Peter’s parents and teachers and predicted a bright future for the boy.

Nworah’s post quickly went viral, drawing widespread praise from Nigerians who were touched by Peter’s actions.

Jemmy Nwanze suggested, “The boy’s parents should be identified, and he should receive an educational scholarship up to tertiary level.”

Onyia Chijioke added, “Hopefully, more is done to recognize his parents.”

Charles Chukwuma remarked, “That boy will go far. Our parents taught us the same values, though some still accepted gifts.”

Juliet Okere commented, “It’s wonderful to see children with such respect. Many young people today lack respect for elders.”

Azie Sylvia was moved by the story, saying, “This video touched me deeply. Such an obedient and respectful boy. Despite persuasion, he stood his ground. God bless him and his parents.”

Jude Emecheta expressed hope, “Amazing to see in this country, there is still hope.”

Amaka Christine predicted, “He will surely be great, PETER THE GREAT.”

Peter Oluka humorously noted, “Yes, we Peters are special.”

Humphrey Ndibe, an Arsenal fan, joked, “Awoniyi, kudos for your generosity! But please, don’t score against Arsenal again.”

Comrade Gabriel highlighted, “Good parenting and upbringing.”

Ifesinachi Nwangele wished Peter well, “A beautiful experience. Best wishes to you, little kid.”
