Inmate Escapes from Delta Correctional Centre
An inmate named Paul Michael, who was serving a sentence for murder, has reportedly escaped from the Sapele Correctional Centre in Delta State.
The escape, described as mysterious, occurred over the weekend, just a day after Raymond Neagu assumed his new role as the State Corrections Controller.
Michael had been imprisoned for the murder of Kelly Onojaiyefe, a furniture apprentice, in Oghara town, Ethiope West local government area.
Ikechukwu Iloba, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the escape, expressing uncertainty about how Michael managed to flee despite stringent security measures in place. Iloba reassured the public that a search team has been deployed to locate Michael and that security has been intensified across the state to recapture him.
Additionally, Iloba mentioned that the comptroller has instructed the squadron commander to strengthen the security at the correctional centre while the investigation is ongoing.
The new controller, disturbed by the incident, has promptly initiated an investigation.
“The command will not overlook this matter,” Iloba stated, adding that the Controller General of Zone G has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the causes of the escape. “The controller has established an investigative team, which he chairs, under the directives of the Controller General of Zone G. Anyone found responsible will face appropriate sanctions,” Iloba assured.
