Captain J.O. Abalaka (N/15198) of the Nigerian Army successfully freed himself and several other hostages after disarming a kidnapper in Kogi State.
Reports from FIRST CLASS GISTS indicate that Captain Abalaka was abducted last week on the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road while en route to his new post at the operational headquarters of the Maiduguri Command in Borno State, transferring from the 29 Battalion in Port Harcourt.
The incident occurred when Abalaka, driving his Toyota Corolla with registration number LSR 22 AJ and accompanied by his dog, was intercepted by gunmen. According to a military report received by FIRST CLASS GISTS, the captors also took other passengers.
Demonstrating remarkable bravery, Captain Abalaka managed to disarm one of the kidnappers who was wielding an AK-47. He then confronted the remaining kidnappers, freeing the other hostages and recovering his dog. In the process, he seized a locally made Beretta handgun, a magazine, and five rounds of 9mm ammunition from the assailants.
