BREAKING: How Troops kills Notorious Bandit Buharin Yadi and 35 Others in Kaduna

Troops from Sector 6 of Operation Whirl Punch have successfully eliminated notorious bandit leader Buhari Alhaji Halidu, also known as Buharin Yadi, in an operation in Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State. Buharin Yadi, a prominent figure in Northern Nigeria’s banditry over the past decade, was killed alongside 35 of his gang members.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced that Buharin Yadi and his cohorts were neutralised during a fierce gunfight with troops led by Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding One Division. The encounter took place in Idasu Forest, near the border between Giwa in Kaduna State and Sabuwa in Katsina State.

Aruwan stated that the covert operation was launched based on intelligence reports about the terrorists’ movements from Samunaka, Saulawa area in Katsina State. Upon reaching Samunaka, the troops discovered a destroyed settlement and slaughtered cattle, indicating recent criminal activities by the bandits.

“A ferocious battle quickly ensued, as approaching terrorists were pounded with artillery rounds at Hayin Almajiri. The troops fought valiantly through an ambush to achieve their objective. Initial assessments indicate that at least 36 bandits were eliminated in the engagement,” Aruwan reported.

It was later confirmed that one of the neutralized bandits was Kachalla Buharin Yadi. According to the Kaduna State government, Yadi and his gang had been terrorizing citizens in the Kidandan/Galadimawa areas of Giwa LGA, Sabon Birni/Kerawa areas of Igabi LGA, as well as parts of Sabuwa LGA in Katsina State, and regions in Niger and Zamfara States. His criminal activities included large-scale cattle rustling, arms trading, drug trafficking, and leading attacks on communities, resulting in numerous kidnappings and killings.

Yadi was also known to have connections with other terrorist groups in the North-East and North-West. His death marks the end of a five-year manhunt by security forces. The news of his demise has brought significant relief and celebrations among locals in Kaduna and Katsina States.

Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, expressed his satisfaction with the operation, praising the bravery, proactivity, and efficiency of the troops involved. He commended Major General Saraso for his leadership and lauded the troops for their comprehensive victory.

Governor Sani reaffirmed his unwavering support for the security forces in Kaduna State and emphasized the government’s continued collaboration. Additionally, due to the injuries sustained by some fleeing bandits, the Kaduna State government has advised residents to report individuals with suspicious injuries to security agencies immediately.
