Police Inspector Allegedly Killed by Naval Officers in Lagos

Police on Patrol

Authorities from the Lagos Police Command have initiated an inquiry into the reported killing of a police inspector by naval officers in the Okokomaiko area of Ojo. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, disclosed this to reporters on Sunday.

According to Mr. Hundeyin, the incident was reported to the Okokomaiko police station around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday by members of the public. The initial report indicated that while on routine patrol along Igbo-Elerin, police officers attempted to apprehend a motorcyclist traveling against traffic near the Beno filling station. Two individuals in civilian clothing, who identified themselves as naval officers, resisted arrest and assaulted the police officers.

Subsequently, additional naval personnel in uniform arrived at the scene and joined in the altercation. During the confrontation, an inspector (name withheld) collapsed and lost consciousness. The naval personnel fled the scene upon realizing the gravity of the situation.

“The unconscious inspector was promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” stated Mr. Hundeyin. The deceased’s body has been transported to the Idi-Araba Mortuary in Yaba for further examination, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
