Asue ighodalo, PDP Flagebearer
In an unexpected development, Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has thrown his support behind Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo State gubernatorial election set for September 21, 2024.

Davido’s endorsement came during his wedding, attended by the current Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. Eyewitnesses and viral videos from the event captured Davido proclaiming, “Asue is the man to beat,” and voicing his full backing for the PDP candidate.
This endorsement is particularly noteworthy given Davido’s strong ties to Edo State. His mother, Veronica Imade Adeleke, hailed from Benin City, born on November 23, 1963, and passing in 2003 at 39 years old. Davido’s connection to the Benin Kingdom underscores his commitment to supporting Asue.
In his campaign platform, “My Covenant with Edo People,” Ighodalo has committed to substantial investments in the state’s creative industry—a sector where Davido and many prominent Edo artists are influential figures. Responding to the endorsement, Erabor Emokpae, Head of Asue Media Organization, expressed optimism about the potential growth of the creative industry under Ighodalo’s leadership.
Davido’s support is expected to significantly boost Ighodalo’s campaign, resonating with Edo’s youthful electorate, a critical demographic in the state’s political arena.
