Bomb Scare: Fubara Claims, it’s Plot to Force State of Emergency in Rivers

Fubara

The explosion at Hotel Presidential on Tuesday evening was aimed at creating the impression that a state of emergency is necessary in Rivers State, according to Governor Sim Fubara.

Governor Fubara made this statement during a courtesy visit from Orji Uzor Kalu, chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization and Commercialization, and his team at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

He explained that the bomb was intended to target senators staying at the hotel. The governor informed Kalu’s delegation that the explosion was part of a scheme to convince the authorities that declaring a state of emergency was the only solution.

However, Governor Fubara noted that divine intervention thwarted the plan, as the bomb exploded prematurely, injuring the suspect.

He further elaborated that certain youths were hired to protest, demanding an extension of the tenure for former local government chairmen who had completed their statutory three-year term. These protests coincided with the presence of National Assembly members at Hotel Presidential, which he believes was not a coincidence.

Governor Fubara stated that the goal of the bomb plot was to justify calls for a state of emergency during legislative sessions. He emphasized that the plan failed, saying, “They knew you were in the state. There was an attempt to create a serious issue. They planned to detonate dynamite at Hotel Presidential because of your presence. But by the grace of God, the individual behind it was injured when the device exploded prematurely, blowing off his hands.”
