The Katsina State Hisbah Board has implemented new regulations banning prostitution, gambling, and wearing knickers while riding tricycles and motorcycles, among other activities. This directive, signed by the Board’s Commandant, Sheikh Aminu Usman, was issued to Arewa FIRST CLASS GISTS on Monday in Katsina.
According to Commandant Usman, the order aims to promote morality, particularly among the youth. The statement from the Board read: “To restore sanity and discipline in Katsina State, the reputable agency has introduced the following new laws:
– Prostitution and gambling are banned across the state.
– Hisbah will monitor and take necessary actions against individuals with inappropriate hairstyles.
The Board has also introduced specific rules for tricycle (Keke Napep) riders:
– Wearing knickers while riding is prohibited.
– The use of curtains on Keke Napep is banned.
– Drivers cannot take women alongside them or mix male and female passengers in one tricycle.
– Using musical devices in tricycles is forbidden.
– Tricycle riders must not wear three-quarter trousers while on duty.
– Reckless driving is prohibited.
– Tinted glasses on tricycles are not allowed.
– Only the driver is permitted to sit in front of the tricycle; no passengers are allowed.
Additionally, motorcycle (okada) riders are prohibited from carrying more than one woman at a time and from mixing genders (male and female) on the same bike.
Sheikh Aminu Usman also stated that the use of vulgar language while selling herbal products in towns or markets is banned. Herbalists are also prohibited from using loudspeakers to advertise their products during prayer times.
Usman warned the public that violating these rules would result in severe penalties. “Anyone who flouts any of these rules will face the full wrath of the law,” he said. He also urged parents to monitor their children, especially daughters, to prevent any misconduct that might break the new rules.
