Reasons Hausa Group Cautions Members Against Participating in Fulani-Led Protests

The Hausawa Tsantsa Development Association (HTDA), a prominent Hausa socio-cultural group, has issued a warning regarding an alleged plan by some Fulani factions to organize protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement dated July 9 and signed by Kalthoom Alumbe Jitami, HTDA cautioned Hausa youths across Nigeria to avoid these purported protests, urging them to remain vigilant. The statement emphasized the need for the Hausa community to resist involvement in activities that could destabilize the current government.

The statement highlighted past tactics, stating, “The same strategy was used to undermine the government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, ultimately leading to Buhari’s rise to power. During Buhari’s tenure, over 7 million Hausawa were killed, and any protests against his government were deemed un-Islamic. Now, suddenly, protests are being encouraged. We must remember this contradiction.”

HTDA strongly distanced itself from the proposed protests, denouncing them as hypocritical. They argued that the food shortages cited as a reason for the protests were a result of attacks on farms and farmers. The group also expressed support for President Tinubu’s government, pledging loyalty and praying for guidance and protection for the administration and the Nigerian people.

In related news, SaharaReporters noted that Senator Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker and human rights activist, claimed that certain northern political forces are attempting to use former President Muhammadu Buhari to undermine President Tinubu’s administration. Sani, during an interview with Arise News TV, suggested that these forces are realigning to mobilize opposition against the current government, leveraging Buhari’s influence to destabilize President Tinubu’s leadership.

Sani stated, “It is customary for prominent figures to visit former presidents during Sallah celebrations. However, there is evidence of political forces in the North regrouping and attempting to use former President Buhari as a focal point to challenge Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s government.”
