Seven Nigerian Soldiers Killed by Explosive Device in Borno During Operation

Seven Nigerian soldiers lost their lives when their vehicle encountered an explosive device in the Mugunu area of Maiduguri, Borno State. The incident occurred on Thursday morning when their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram along the Gamboru Ngala-Maiduguri Road.

The Nigerian Army had received a distress call early Thursday about a Boko Haram attack on a nearby community. In response, the commandant dispatched three vehicles with armed soldiers to assist. Unfortunately, one of these vehicles hit an electro-explosive device (EED) in the Mugunu area, resulting in the death of six soldiers and leaving only one survivor.

Boko Haram has previously planted IEDs in the region, causing significant damage to vehicles traveling the road, as reported by a resident of Gamboru Ngala.

News360 Nigeria has obtained distressing footage showing soldiers recovering and reassembling the remains of their fallen comrades.

A military source revealed: “They were called to assist a neighboring community under attack by Boko Haram. The commandant instructed them to move out at around 5 am. The first and second vehicles passed without incident, but the third vehicle hit the EED, killing all but one of the soldiers on board.”

The source added that the remains of the soldiers are being collected and identified before notifying their families. One of the deceased has been identified as Luke, a native of Cross River State, but details about the other victims remain limited at this time.
