The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has called on billionaire Aliko Dangote to adhere to the established regulations set by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other relevant regulatory bodies. The group emphasized that NNPCL, NUPRC, and NMDPRA were in place before Dangote’s refinery was established and should not be pressured to alter their protocols for personal gain.

In a statement delivered by Speaker Mohammed Salihu Danlami in Abuja, the assembly criticized Dangote for attempting to dictate fuel prices and manipulate the regulatory process. They accused Dangote of seeking to acquire Bonny Light crude oil at his preferred rates, which contravenes global best practices and the principles of a willing buyer-willing seller relationship.

Additionally, the group alleged that Dangote is pressuring the NMDPRA to prevent other entities from obtaining licenses, while simultaneously accusing the agency of allowing substandard products into the country. The AYA has called for the National Assembly to release laboratory results from Dangote’s refinery to the public, citing concerns over product quality.

The assembly urged Dangote to align with industry regulations and cease efforts that might undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. They demanded that Dangote either apologize to the government and competitors for damaging their reputations or face legal consequences.
