DSS arrests 7 Polish citizens in connection with flying Russia flag for Hunger Protest

The Directorate of State Services (DSS) has detained seven Polish nationals in connection with the display of foreign flags during a protest in Kano. These individuals are reportedly students at a local university in Kano.

DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya shared this information on Wednesday, August 7, in response to an inquiry from the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria during a briefing with the Diplomatic Corps conducted by Nigeria’s Minister Yusuf Tuggar regarding the ongoing nationwide protests.

Afunanya explained that the Polish citizens were arrested after being seen displaying foreign flags during the protest in Kano. He emphasized that their detention was due to security measures related to the situation, not a specific action against Polish individuals.

He stated, “The individuals were apprehended in Kano due to their presence and activities during the protest involving foreign flags. As a responsible security agency, it is our duty to verify and understand the circumstances surrounding such incidents.”

Afunanya further assured that the operation was not targeted at Polish citizens but was part of routine security enforcement. He emphasized that the DSS adheres to democratic principles and human rights in its operations and urged foreign nations not to allow their territories to be used as a base for activities that might undermine global peace and stability.
