Rivers State: Wike’s loyalists Threaten Attack On Gov Fubara’s Property Admist Political Tensions

On Wednesday, former local government chairmen in Rivers State accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the recent attack by hunger protesters on the residence of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt. The former officials, who served during Wike’s tenure, alleged that Fubara was behind the protest aimed at Wike’s home and warned that they might retaliate by targeting Fubara’s properties.

During the nationwide hunger protests, demonstrators gathered at Wike’s house on Ada George Road, chanting and hurling insults before police intervened to prevent them from breaching the property.

The chairmen, representing the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria’s Rivers State chapter, expressed their dissatisfaction with Fubara’s administration. Dr. Chidi Lloyd, a former Chairman of the Emuoha Local Government Area, stated, “We believe Fubara directed these protesters to Wike’s residence. We are prepared to mobilize our supporters to launch an attack on his properties as well.”

Lloyd criticized Fubara’s governance and alleged financial misconduct, asserting that Fubara had not made effective use of the state funds and warning that any further aggression would be met with strong resistance. He emphasized that the protesters should also question Fubara about the use of the state’s finances during his tenure.

In response, Joseph Johnson, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, dismissed the former chairmen’s claims as unfounded. He accused them of meddling in matters beyond their authority and suggested their actions were part of a broader, orchestrated effort to undermine Fubara’s administration. Johnson further criticized their attempts to escalate the situation, labeling them as futile efforts of a “dying horse” and dismissing their statements as irrelevant.
