Hunger Protest Response: Bauchi Governor Criticize Tinubu’s Address says it’s empty

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to the nation, asserting that it did not adequately respond to the protesters’ concerns. In light of the #EndBadGovernance protests, which have highlighted issues of hunger and poverty, Tinubu’s Sunday broadcast called for calm and reaffirmed his commitment to his policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies.

Governor Mohammed, speaking at the launch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for local government elections in Bauchi, contended that the President’s remarks failed to address the core issues raised by the demonstrators. He argued that the President missed an opportunity to engage with the protesters’ demands.

“The President’s speech, while delivered with attention, lacked substance,” Governor Mohammed remarked. “It did not confront the underlying problems or challenges. These issues are not solely the President’s responsibility but a collective concern for all leaders, from the national to the local level.”

He highlighted that the current policies of the Federal Government are failing, stating, “The new policy direction is ineffective and has contributed to the ongoing problems. There must be a reassessment and adjustment of these policies.”

Additionally, the Governor expressed concern over claims by some Federal Government ministers about the allocation of resources, questioning the effectiveness and transparency of these expenditures.
