Tragic Accident at UNILAG Due to Reckless Driving

A serious accident occurred early Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) near the university sports center. The accident involved a group of students who had been out at a party or club and were driving a sedan that overturned in the early morning hours. The sound of the crash drew immediate attention from bystanders.

One woman was found bleeding heavily, while a man was observed with bloodstains on his white shirt. An ambulance from the university was dispatched to transport the injured individuals from the scene.

Premierlead’s reporter interviewed security personnel stationed at the sports center and another from the adjacent Environmental Science Faculty who had witnessed the incident.
Reckless driving has become a frequent issue at UNILAG, with students often speeding through the campus and removing exhausts from their sports cars to create disruptive noise. This behavior undermines their primary focus on academics and creates a disturbance for other students.
To address these issues and prevent similar accidents, it is crucial for campus security to enhance their vigilance. They should stop vehicles suspected of reckless driving at the main gate and require drivers with tinted windows to either remove the tint or lower their windows. Additionally, installing a speed limit sign near the gate and addressing vehicles with modified exhausts would help mitigate noise pollution and maintain a conducive environment for students.
