2024 Olympics: Reno Omokri Accuses Peter Obi of Ethnic Bias

Dear Peter Obi,

In your recent criticisms regarding Nigeria’s performance at the Paris Olympics, you focused exclusively on two athletes, Favour Ofili and Annette Echikunwoke, both of whom are Igbo. You lamented their alleged mistreatment and their decision to represent the United States instead of Nigeria.

Additionally, you criticized Nigeria’s handling of Ese Ukpeseraye, the country’s first Olympic cyclist, who had to borrow a bicycle from the German team. You failed to mention that Ukpeseraye did not qualify for the Olympics until the games were already underway, leaving no time or reason for Nigeria to invest $36,000 in a specialized bicycle for her.

Moreover, you neglected to acknowledge the efforts of Tobi Amusan, who might have won a medal for Nigeria with more support. Instead, attention was diverted due to the Days of Rage protests that you and Omoyele Sowore endorsed.

Your sole focus seemed to be on the two Igbo athletes, raising questions about whether you are too narrow-minded to lead a diverse nation like Nigeria. This pattern of selective concern also mirrors your silence on the violence in the Southeast, including the recent killings by Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) under Simon Ekpa’s leadership.

Nigeria needs a leader who embraces and supports all its citizens, not just those of their own ethnic group.
