Building Collapse Claims Lives of Father and Son in Jigawa

The Buji Local Government Council in Jigawa has reported the tragic deaths of a 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son due to a building collapse in Madabe village. Alhaji Ali Safiyanu, the council’s Information Officer, confirmed the incident to news outlets in Dutse on Monday. He noted that the child’s 25-year-old mother survived the collapse and is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital.
The collapse occurred on Sunday night amid heavy rainfall. Badaruddeen Tijjani, spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa, verified the event but could not immediately provide the names of those affected or the surviving mother. An investigation into the incident is underway.
This building collapse follows severe flooding in the region from Thursday to Sunday, which displaced approximately 400 households and damaged around 1,000 farms. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed relief supplies to those displaced, who are currently sheltering in a local school.
