Kano Police Detain 873 Suspects in Crime Crackdown during Nationwide Protest

The Kano State Police Command announced on Monday that it has apprehended at least 873 individuals in connection with robbery, kidnapping, and other offenses during recent nationwide protests.
The suspects were paraded before the media at the command’s Bompai headquarters. According to Commissioner of Police Salma Dogo, these arrests were part of a broader effort to uphold law and order, safeguard citizens’ right to peaceful protest, and prevent criminal activities.
During the protests, the police detained 600 individuals for various offenses, including breaches of curfew regulations. Additionally, six suspects were arrested for their roles in the destruction and looting at the Kano State Printing Press.
The police also apprehended 76 suspects for displaying Russian flags, including a foreign tailor, and seized two AK-47 rifles and other significant items. Other arrests included two suspected kidnappers, five alleged armed robbers, and eight suspected car thieves, along with the recovery of a Beretta pistol.
Furthermore, the command rescued 13 victims of trafficking. Commissioner Dogo confirmed that the suspects will face charges once investigations are completed and urged the public to assist with intelligence to aid in the capture of other criminals.
“The command remains committed to collaborating with other security agencies to proactively address and mitigate security threats,” Dogo assured.
