Benue Bandit Attack Destroys 23 Homes and Injures Three
On Sunday, bandits suspected to be armed herders launched a violent attack on the Egwuma community in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, setting fire to 23 houses. The attack also resulted in three individuals being shot and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Philip Ebenyakwu, the Chairman of the Local Government, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday. He noted that the attackers, believed to be herders from Kogi State, targeted the Egwuma community, which lies near the border with Kogi and is frequently exposed to such assaults.
Ebenyakwu detailed that the bandits not only burned down homes but also stole three motorcycles during the raid. Despite the extensive property damage, there were no fatalities reported. However, three villagers sustained gunshot wounds and are under medical care.
The local council chair praised the efforts of security forces in the area. He highlighted that naval officers had recently seized a machine boat used by invaders from Nasarawa State who have been known to attack the region.
