- News now: Everton takeover twist as other parties still in talks …
Other parties remain in talks over taking over Everton despite the latest developments involving John Textor, according to Paul Brown.
The freelance journalist reported via X on Thursday (15 August) that other interested parties remain in negotiations despite the fact Textor has reportedly entered a period of exclusivity [David Ornstein, 15 August].
Neither Farhad Moshiri nor the American billionaire have yet confirmed this news to be true and Textor is also yet to find a buyer for his ownership stake in Crystal Palace meaning there is still a lot of work to be done.
Premier League rules dictate that one party cannot hold a stake in two different clubs, meaning Textor will need to find a buyer for his shares at Crystal Palace before purchasing Everton.
Will John Textor take over Everton from Farhad Moshiri?
Everton supporters would have never expected this process to be easy given the rollercoaster the saga has been over the last couple of years, but there still appears to be a lot of hoops for Textor and Moshiri to jump through.
On top of that, the retained interest from alternative parties who are still understood to be holding talks with the club would suggest that there is a belief that Textor won’t definitely be Moshiri’s successor on Merseyside.
Whether it is the American or another party involved, supporters will just want to see this process finalised as soon as possible so that they can begin to look ahead to the new season with optimism rather than dread.
Hopefully, some sort of official confirmation around the exclusivity agreement will emerge from both Textor and Moshiri sooner rather than later so fans and alternative buyers know exactly where they stand.
Then comes the small matter of repaying the various loans in the Blues’ name and selling Textor’s shares at Selhurst Park.
