Truck and Mini Bus Collision in Enugu; See the Numbers of Live Claimed

On Friday evening, a tragic accident occurred in the Emene area of Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, resulting in the deaths of three passengers and leaving two others critically injured.

Reports indicate that a heavy-duty truck transporting laterite collided with a mini bus at Orie Emene Junction around 7 p.m. The mini bus, which was en route from Old Park to Emene, was carrying seven passengers and the driver at the time of the crash.

Although some passengers managed to escape, three were killed in the collision, and two others sustained severe injuries. Eyewitnesses have suggested that the truck driver’s actions may have led to the accident, as there was no visible sign of speeding or brake failure.

One witness, Okechi Michael, expressed disbelief at the incident, noting that the junction is usually busy. He mentioned that despite the removal of speed bumps by the current administration, the truck encountered obstacles on Adoration Road before reaching the junction. Michael pointed out that the truck had crossed a railway line shortly before the collision and speculated that neither speeding nor brake failure likely caused the crash.

The truck driver has been apprehended by the police. Concerns have been raised about potential corruption and calls for the driver to face serious charges, including manslaughter or murder, to ensure justice for the victims. An Air Force personnel involved in the rescue efforts also questioned the circumstances leading to the driver’s loss of control.
