In a recent statement, Ahmed Rufai discussed his resignation as Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). He described the resignation as part of a routine briefing process with the President, which was no different from previous occasions.
Following the briefing, Rufai formally submitted his resignation, which was graciously accepted by the President. Rufai expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve Nigeria under the President’s leadership for an unusual span of 15 months, which included serving under two different Presidents.
He acknowledged the chance to contribute to the country and assured his ongoing commitment to professional integrity and public service. Rufai cited personal family reasons for his decision to step down but emphasized that there were no serious issues involved. He conveyed that he had a personal discussion with the President, who was understanding of his decision.
