Kogi PDP Calls for Dino Melaye’s Suspension, Labels Him a ‘Liability’

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Senator Dino Melaye, labeling him a liability to the party.

Under the leadership of Ibrahim Dansofo, PDP elders have urged the Ijumu local executive committee to begin suspension proceedings against Melaye. They argue that this action is necessary to restore the party’s integrity and ensure effective leadership.

On Saturday, Melaye accused the acting national chairman of the PDP, Iliya Damagum, along with Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature, of ruining the party. He claimed that their actions have irreparably damaged the PDP.

In response, the PDP elders condemned Melaye’s comments, stating that his political career has deteriorated to the point where he cannot even secure a local council position. They described him as a burden to the party, suggesting that his association with the PDP now serves primarily to negotiate personal benefits with the ruling party rather than contribute positively.

Dansofo remarked, “Senator Melaye’s criticisms of the current leadership are hypocritical. He was given a governorship ticket despite knowing he couldn’t win even a primary election.”

The Kogi PDP has attributed the party’s current difficulties to Melaye’s nomination, claiming it was a major error that has led to their current challenges. They have also urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reassess their support for Melaye, advising them to distance themselves from someone they view as a significant liability.

The party has called on the public to disregard Melaye’s statements, branding them as the desperate words of a politician whose influence has waned. They expressed their commitment to rejuvenating the party and called for Melaye to account for the funds he allegedly collected for the governor

ship election.
