Zamfara: Reasons APC Disputes Governor Lawal’s Claims on Fertilizer Distribution

The Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Governor Dauda Lawal’s assertion that his administration provided 81,000 bags of free fertilizer to local farmers.

Last week, Governor Lawal inaugurated the distribution of these fertilizers, claiming they were purchased by his administration. However, the APC has disputed this claim, stating that the fertilizers were part of the Federal Government’s allocation through the NG-Cares program, not procured by the state government.

Alhaji Yusuf Idris, the APC spokesperson, criticized Lawal for not acknowledging the Federal Government’s role in supplying the fertilizers. Idris expressed frustration that Lawal’s administration did not credit President Bola Tinubu’s government for this initiative.

The APC statement noted that while Lawal announced the distribution of 135 trucks of fertilizer to farmers, many questions remain unanswered. The statement highlighted concerns over the process for selecting beneficiaries and the timing of the distribution, which came midway through the rainy season.

It also questioned the absence of information regarding any state procurement of fertilizers at subsidized rates, as well as the lack of transparency about the allocation and approval processes.

On the issue of security, Idris criticized Lawal’s claims of improved safety in the state, arguing that banditry has worsened. The APC accused the governor of misleading the public with media propaganda while failing to address the increasing insecurity affecting farmers.

The statement concluded with a warning that the APC would continue to monitor and report on the governor’s actions to ensure that the public remains informed and not misled.
