The Labour Party (LP) has named Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the head of its Caretaker Committee. The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, on Wednesday.
Senator Usman, who previously served as Minister of Finance and represented Kaduna South in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, will lead the 29-member committee. The group’s primary role is to address the party’s current leadership issues and work towards its electoral success. They have 90 days to complete their tasks, which include organizing a convention to elect new leaders from the ward level up to the national level.
Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the former Senate Minority Deputy Leader from Abia Central, will act as the committee’s Secretary.
The meeting, hosted by Governor Alex Otti, was attended by prominent party figures, including presidential candidate Peter Obi, his running mate Datti Ahmed, Senator Victor Umeh, and Lagos State governorship candidate Rhodes-Vivour.
