Lagos Taskforce Detains Six for Illegal Fuel Sales Amid Scarcity

The Lagos State Taskforce has apprehended six individuals for engaging in unlawful petrol sales as the city faces a fuel shortage.

The suspects were arrested for selling petrol at exorbitant prices to motorists in the Fadeyi, Maryland, and Airport Road areas.

CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Taskforce, spearheaded the operation and underscored the risks associated with the black market.

“Fuel scarcity is no excuse for criminals to exploit Lagos residents,” Akerele remarked, noting that illegal petrol sales not only place a financial strain on motorists but also present significant safety hazards due to the highly flammable nature of the fuel.

The arrested suspects—Toibu Ishola (44), Yakubu Olayiwola (34), Adebayo Rasak (29), Maria Balogun (50), Motunrayo Dosunmu (43), and John Ogunfowokan—will soon face legal proceedings.

Akerele issued a firm warning to those involved in illegal fuel trading or working with unauthorized petrol stations to cease immediately or face legal action.

“We are determined to crack down on these illicit activities and protect public safety,” he emphasized.

The Taskforce also encouraged the public to report any suspicious behavior related to illegal fuel sales or storage to help prevent potential disasters.
