Nursing Officer Abducted in Ogun State

Elizabeth Uruakpa, an assistant chief nursing officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, was kidnapped on Thursday evening.

The 66-year-old Uruakpa was accosted by armed men while returning from a church service. The attack occurred around 7 p.m. near her home, behind the new Ilisan market. Witnesses reported that she was forcibly removed from her vehicle and taken away in a red Toyota car.

A local resident described the incident as unprecedented and alarming for the community. “We’ve never seen anything like this here before. It’s very unsettling,” the resident said.

University official Joshua Suleiman confirmed the kidnapping but noted that detailed information was still being gathered.

State police spokesperson Omolola Odutola verified the incident via her X account. “On September 5, we received a report from Ilishan near the new market at about 5:10 p.m. regarding the abduction of Elizabeth Uruakpa by armed individuals in a red Toyota Camry,” Mrs. Odutola wrote.

This incident follows a similar tragic event involving the university. On April 19, Yinka Olomojobi, a lecturer and professor of human rights and gender law at Babcock University, was shot and killed while resisting an abduction attempt at Ajadeh Event Centre on Iperu/Sagamu Road. The kidnappers also abducted two unidentified individuals during the incident.
