See the Number Arrested for Ransacking Abuja: N5 Million in Public Assets Damaged

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has reported significant damage to public infrastructure, estimated at N5 million, due to recent vandalism in Abuja.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu revealed on Monday that 13 suspects were apprehended between Saturday, September 7, and Monday, September 9, 2024. These individuals are alleged to have been involved in the destruction of streetlight cables, billboards, armored electrical cables, and iron rods throughout various parts of the capital.
The arrests followed extensive surveillance and patrol operations, aided by intelligence gathered from the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department. The vandals targeted major sites, including the Kukwaba Railways overhead bridge and Nnamdi Azikiwe Way.
Recovered items from the suspects include motorcycles, shovels, billboards, armored cables, and iron rods. The NSCDC is committed to enhancing its efforts to safeguard public assets and has warned that those engaged in such criminal activities will face severe consequences.
Odumosu emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted. Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the resale of the stolen materials.
“We are determined to address this issue thoroughly and will pursue all leads to bring those responsible to justice,” Odumosu stated. “We urge anyone involved in criminal activities to cease their actions or leave Abuja, as we are resolute in our mission to eliminate such threats.”
