Breaking: See How Over 200 Inmates, Including Boko Haram Leaders, Flee Maiduguri Prison After Flood Destroys Fence

In Maiduguri, Borno State, a catastrophic flood has caused a prison wall to collapse, resulting in the escape of over 200 inmates from the Maiduguri New Prison. Among those who fled were several Boko Haram commanders.
A source from the Nigerian Correctional Center revealed that the intense rainfall severely damaged the facility’s perimeter fence, allowing prisoners to escape. The source, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the escapees included key Boko Haram figures.
In response to the situation, authorities managed to relocate 200 other inmates to a different facility. This incident follows previous assurances by the Borno State government about preventive measures against flooding, which now appear insufficient.
The flood has wreaked havoc across Maiduguri and surrounding areas, causing significant destruction and displacement among residents.
When reached for comment, Nigerian Correctional Service spokesperson Abubakar Umar stated, “We are currently assessing the situation nationwide. Please contact me in a couple of hours for a detailed update.”
