One Died, Eight Injured in Horrific Third Mainland Bridge Crash

A tragic accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on September 16 resulted in the death of an unidentified male and injuries to eight others. The collision occurred between two commercial buses near the Oworonsoki end of the bridge.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs Department for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reported that both buses were traveling at high speeds when the crash happened. The injured were taken to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased was moved to the morgue.

The accident involved a head-on collision between two Mazda buses (LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH) near Ilaje, heading towards Iyana-Oworonsoki. This devastating incident underscores the severe risks associated with reckless driving.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded promptly, facilitating the swift rescue of the injured passengers who sustained serious fractures. The Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) provided urgent medical transport to Gbagada General Hospital.

Police units from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations played a crucial role in maintaining security and assisting with the rescue efforts to restore order following the crash.
