Rivers Crisis: Wike’s Camp Heads to Court as Fubara Swears in Local Government Chairmen
Governor Fubara has encouraged newly sworn-in local government chairmen to maintain a strong connection with their communities. He emphasized the importance of patience and conflict resolution, urging the chairmen to adopt a service-oriented mindset rather than viewing themselves as powerful figures.
He stated, “You must recognize your role as public servants. Seeing yourself as an emperor or the sole authority because of your access to funds will lead to problems. This position is a chance for you to unite and serve the people of Rivers State, where development is essential across all 23 local government areas.”
Fubara acknowledged the infrastructure improvements made during his tenure but stressed that further progress is necessary. He advised the new leaders to prioritize their constituents’ needs, work towards local betterment, and embody servant leadership.
“Open your doors to everyone,” he continued. “When you focus on the community and assist them, you create a strong foundation for governance. This approach will define our administration.”
The governor also mentioned that he is aware of plans by some opponents to incite unrest at the council secretariats. He urged the chairmen to avoid confrontation and remain peaceful, stating, “Protecting the peace of Rivers State is our priority. Be patient and strategic; in due time, victory will come.”
Fubara reiterated his commitment to guiding Rivers people towards a future of equality and development. He encouraged the grassroots leaders to embody this promise, approaching their roles with enthusiasm and a sense of urgency.
He cautioned against greed and the temptation to hoard wealth, reminding them to honor the opportunity they have been given. “This is a pivotal moment for Rivers State, and I will oversee the progress across all local governments closely, as we can’t afford any missteps.”
Expressing gratitude to God, Fubara also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his democratic support and involvement in his administration. He acknowledged the presence of Senator Bala Mohammed, the PDP Governor’s Forum Chairman, and reaffirmed his allegiance to the PDP.
